With a painting practice defined by elaborate brushstrokes and energetic swathes of thick oil paints, Throsby’s works feature all manner of abstracted landscapes and surrealist figures, as well as immaculate beach scenes and mysterious figures. A finalist in the 2024 Goulburn Art Award, with works held in the National Gallery of Australia and the Heide Museum of Modern Art, it’s a thrill to have an artist at the curatorial wheel again. Let loose through the permanent collection of the Gallery, we eagerly anticipate what treasures he might select for display.
